Learn the basics of organic certification compliance with QAI. In this video, QAI Reviewer Michelle Lucero discusses key aspects of usage and documentation of non-organic ingredients in organic products. Organic processed products are allowed to have up to 5 percent non-organic ingredients, but these ingredients are regulated by the USDA National Organic Program and must be on the National List. The ingredients on the National List include minerals and microorganisms, ingredients that can’t be grown organically, and agricultural ingredients that are not currently commercially available in organic form.
QAI’s Organic Nibbles video series helps you understand what goes into getting organic certification and why these policies and procedures are important in maintaining your product’s organic integrity. Watch more Organic Nibbles videos and other content on QAI’s Learning Resources page.
